Personal note from Pam about sweeteners and wheat

CULPRITS!

Boy, I wanted to talk to you about two "culprits" that tripped me up in my search for a food plan that would work for the long-haul. NATURAL SWEETENERS (like Stevia) and WHEAT! (FYI: the natural sweeteners are not allowed in this program, but wheat products are still a matter of choice).

I didn't know what I didn't know, and I really and truly believed from the pit of my belly and heart that these things were not a problem for me, BUT God showed me through my experiences that I was dead wrong!

For the wheat, it wasn't a usual food for me, but on a trip, I opted for a shredded wheat cereal because of convenience. That whole trip was a food-thought excursion. I didn't overeat, but my head was entertaining food thoughts the whole time! It didn't take long for me to realize that it was the wheat that triggered me.....the only thing that I had added or changed. Same thing happened when I tried soy sauce. agghghg    For me, these things are not that important. Better to be safe than sorry.

On the sweeteners, I didn't stop them until seven years of abstinence! SEVEN YEARS of low-level cravings that I thought were just the way it is as a food addict. BUT when I decided that I didn't need a sweet taste, I stopped them...and became free. Praise the Lord that my meals come and go!

Again, I didn't know what I didn't know. Today, I am much more ready to say, "maybe you're right" to my sponsor. It is the truth that sets me free.
