Book Reviews
Hi, I'm Dinah and I'm a food addict and overeater!
If you are a binge eater, a yo-yo dieter, anorexic, bulimic, or if you think you might have an eating disorder of any description, READ this book!
If you are having problems sticking to diets, READ this book!
If you know somebody who you think has any of these food related problems, or any other addictive issues, READ this book, and/or give it to them!
If a friend or relative is dealing with these issues and you want to understand better in order to be loving and helpful, READ this book!
It was such a comfort to me, and such an encouragement that I read it right through and then went back to the beginning and started again.
By that time I had decided to join Overeaters Anonymous, I already felt so accustomed to the idea that it was not frightening to me anymore, when for years it has been an admission too far. When I got to OA it was just like reading the book, people being wholly welcoming and wholly, brutally honest about themselves, but with courage and hope, and joy at that hope. This is what the book 'Sweet Surrender' will give you too.
I loved that there was so much biblical scripture, all relevant to the issues, but please don't let that put you off if you are not Christian; the ideas are sound from any perspective, so please just be open-minded. Funny how we have to be so politically correct about everything except Christianity!
This book might save your life, it is certainly part of the journey of saving mine!

Love it! By Angie This book and it's author really touch my heart. When I felt hopeless and without a solution, I stumbled across the author's website and her story. I was given a lifeline, a compassionate helping hand to pull me out of my food addicted misery. My mind cleared and I felt hope again. This book is full of information and connects me with my higher power through the author's vulnerable, personal story. Not many people are so honest and willing to help others is such ways, but Pam has God's heart to reach out and help others through her own story of recovery. Enjoy this read and feel hope and victory in your life.
This book brought such break through for me By Autumn This book was so good. It brought breakthrough for my healing journey from food. I always thought I was probably crazy when it came to my issues with food but when I read this book, I found that I was not alone in my struggles. Pam has such a gift for writing and her honesty is impacting. Her testimony is powerful, even if you don't have food struggles, it is a worthy read. Get ready to laugh and cry and experience her walk every step of the way. You will not be dissapointed.
Fabulous!!! By Billy Sweetpea Pam has given me hope for a future. Her tremendous insight and nutritional understanding is amazing. The pages of this book not only revealed that I have a problem, but that there are people out there like me, and that there is a solution with God at the center. Today, I live in hope for a brighter tomorrow. Pam, from the bottom of my heart I thank you so much.
This turned my heart, perspective of food, and life around! By Carolyn M Myers After having struggled with being considerably overweight for over 50 years, I had almost lost hope until I found this and read it....in one day! I could not put it down! I knew The Lord had directed me to it. I had tried everything, well almost everything, except what Pam had shared. I thought, well, with the Lord's help, I will give this a try. I knew this was what He wanted of me, obedience. That was a month ago, and He has carried me in an amazing way, and I have NO doubt He will continue as I follow the Lord's guidance and Pam's lead. Pam's Biblical perspective is very trustworthy. I really appreciated her personal transparency and humility. I wish I could shout it from the rooftop how great this book is! Do read it. You will be very glad you did!
Thanks, Pam for sharing your story.

I have dieted all my adult life. I had gastric bypass in 2008 and am battling regained weight. I stumbled across the Full of Faith website and saw the Sweet Surrender book. I read the book and was delighted to read about someone who experienced the same issues I faced. Some days are hard but I now know I'm not alone.
Pam is a very supportive, Godly woman who very patiently points us to God. I am blessed to have found her and this book.

I normally have problems reading self-help books. I read this through. I am a food addict and have been attempting the 12 steps approach with the help of an addiction therapist. This book spoke to my heart and will be referred to in my journey.
ByCheryl Gramson
I am notorious for getting a book, reading a couple of chapters and then laying it aside. I could not put this book down. It was relatable, personal, and I could see victory after victory unfold from beginning to end. I found a solution to a life long problem by reading this book and then joining Pam's groups listed in the book.

Pam tells it like it is for thousands (maybe millions?) of people who cannot control their eating. She tells her story with skill and clarity. Very well written! She also tells of the miracles she has experienced in recovery and how God and the 12 Steps have saved her from a life of pain, shame, and unhappiness. Thanks, Pam, for your bravery in sharing your story with the world. May many others who are suffering gain hope and share your recovery!
Bycara Johnsonon
Pam tells my story..Although I am not a Christian,I can relate to her journey. She gets that binge eating its an addiction not just an emotional issue. Finally a balanced food plan with clear cut parameters...
Wonderful Book for Food addictions and Compulsive Overeating!
ByMfreeindeedon
I'm knew to food addiction recovery and this book was so helpful explaining what abstinence is (and is not). It's written well including personal testimonies, which I love. It also includes an Easy Food plan.
Best Book on Food Addiction
ByPaulaon
This is the best book I have ever read on food addiction! And I have read many over the years looking for "the one" that would not only speak to my deep suffering but also offer a real and lasting solution. Other books have addressed emotional eating and the physical connection. Pam Masshardt addresses all aspects of the problem and the solution from first hand experience. Her story is compelling as well has her ability to truly help others through long successful experience and deep compassion for the food addict. Help doesn't stop once the book is closed either. Continuing support is offered any who are inspired to go forward in lasting recovery.
Reading this made me aware that this was me. I could have wrote this book!

Glad to know I'm not alone. This has changed my life! I've followed this for six weeks now and lost 12 pounds the first month plus I feel free from t he addiction of food for the first time!

This is an excellent book on food addiction. I am not Christian but I am spiritual and was able to relate and benefit from reading this book. I greatly enjoyed reading about Pam's journey of recovery from food addiction using her faith and the 12 steps. Pam is an excellent writer and clearly details her own struggles as a food addict and how she was able to find recovery by following the 12 steps as outlined by Alcoholics Anonymous and trusting and relying on her Higher Power. She weaves scripture through her writings (which I know little about, but enjoyed reading), and presents a clear case for why food addiction is a physiological phenomenon but one that can by arrested one day at a time with the help of others and faith in something bigger than ourselves. She even provides a suggested food plan for those who don't know where to start. This is not a diet, it's a way of life, and Pam offers hope and guidance for all those struggling with this affliction. Bravo Pam, and thank you.

Pam Masshardt brings it all together in this awesome book. It's Scripturally sound and full of 12-step wisdom. Having attended 2 ACORN retreats in the past, it was comforting to see so many familiar personalities represented in these pages: Mary Foushi, Phil Werdell and Kay Sheppard have all personally been part of my journey, and their ministry greets me like an old friend. Pam Masshardt adds yet another layer of insight to my understanding, and again I can believe all things are possible!
Pam...where have you been all my life?
ByJoyful in Georgiaon
I have struggled with food all of my adult life. Gaining and losing have been a "huge" part of my life. I underwent RNY gastric bypass in June of 2008. The weight came off. I wasn't tiny but 170 lbs was so much better than 328 lbs. fast forward to October 2013... Feel like a failure. Reading this book I finally discovered my twin. Someone who had the same issues, same weaknesses and same faith. I have inhaled this book and I'm so excited for this journey. Fabulous book if you have ever had an "affair" with food. Anorexia and bulimia always get the press but compulsive Overeating affects countless people who just feel hopeless and afraid. Thank you Pam for taking the reader by the hand and leading them out of the chaos! You are a God-send.

If you are struggling with food addiciton this is the book to read. Pam really hits home by sharing her own experience, strength and hope. As a person who has struggled with food addiction myself I need to hear from people who have been there and done that and came out on the other side through loving God, surrendering and helping others. Pam's story is heartfelt, honest and victorious. After reading the book I realize that if she did it then I can do it too.

I mightily applaud this book for both personal and collective assistance and application! This is an fulfilled plea for an effective Christian program to deal with food addiction. For The idiosyncratic reader, advocate, health practitioner, family, and spiritual guide.... Pam is a person of integrity, with credence as she communicates with comprehensiveness and gives testimony to her efforts, struggles, challenges, and triumph with food addiction. Optimistic, heart-whole, genuine strengthening... With extensive perspective, she extends a substantial blueprint for restoration of both the fleshly and spiritual issues effected by eating disorders.

As a Christian food addict in recovery, I could definitely relate to everything in this easy to read book. I've been following a food plan in secular 12 step recovery programs for the past 18 months. I recommend this book for those who were like me initially not wanting to read the AA Big Book. Sweet Surrender does not contradict anything in the Big Book, but expounds on the basics of 12 step recovery from compulsive eating and food addiction from a Christian perspective. Wonderful read!

This is a fabulous book! Pam shares her tragedy of suffering from compulsive overeating but more importantly shares her RECOVERY! She supports her references to the 12 Steps with corresponding Bible passages. She tells how it was, what happened, and then how God led her healed her and led her to a ministry of sharing her recovery in very concrete ways with others who are still suffering. Through it all, she draws strength from and gives the glory to God. She tells you just what she did and what she does now to keep her head and heart, as well as her body, out of the excess food! This is a deeply moving, yet easy to read story and manual for recovery. I voraciously read through the e-book. Now, I need to buy the paperback so I can pass it around for others to read!
